Over 165,000 Australian students (more than 2,000 schools) visit Canberra, Australia’s National Capital, each year to participate in high quality educational programs on offer at the National Capital's Attractions.

The Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program is an Australian Government initiative that provides financial assistance to support students' on-site learning about national democratic, historical and cultural institutions in Canberra, the nation's capital.

Under PACER, students who learn about civics and citizenship in the classroom see their knowledge brought to life when they experience Canberra first hand. Students must visit Parliament House, The Museum of Australian Democracy and/or The National Electoral Education Centre and the Australian War Memorial. They also have the opportunity to visit a number of other sites of cultural and historical interest while in Canberra.

All PACER approved national institutions provide educational programs that directly align with the Australian Curriculum.

To qualify, schools must be located at least 150 kilometres from Canberra. Rebates are paid on a sliding scale with more money paid to schools further away from Canberra.

Due to the demand of visiting the Nations Capital, schools are booking their excursions 12-24 months ahead of time to be able to book into the venues, accommodation and transport provider of choice.

The average stay for a Canberra Excursion Tour is 5-6 days and will visit approximately 12-14 attractions/venues, and in winter this can be extended with a Snow Play Day Trip to the Snowy Mountains.

Canberra has been very quiet and will continue to be so for the remainder of the year due to COVID-19, we will miss seeing the smiling happy faces of the schools that we will not see this year.

Now's the perfect time to get planning for 2021, 2022 and beyond.

Below is a list of why you should consider booking your next educational tour with Deane Transport Services;

  • Local Family Owned and Operated Business based in Cooma at the Gateway to the Snowy Mountains, with an operational base in Canberra.
